About Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra

Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra, born on April 19, 1957, in Sonepat, Haryana, India, has led a distinguished career marked by notable achievements in both sports and business. He began his academic journey at Burn Hall School in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, where he completed his higher secondary education in 1974.

He then pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree at Amar Singh College, Srinagar, graduating in 1977, and furthered his education by earning a Bachelor of Law (LL.B) from the University of Kashmir in 1981.

Dr. Batra’s passion for hockey has remained a central part of his life. He captained the Burn Hall School Hockey Team in 1972 and 1973, leading them to victory in the State Inter School Championships and participating in the All Jawaharlal Nehru Hockey Tournament in Delhi.

His leadership and skill extended to Amar Singh College, where he captained the hockey team from 1975 to 1977 and played in the Inter College Tournament. At the University of Kashmir, he captained the hockey team in 1979 and 1980, representing the university in the All India Inter University Championships from 1975 to 1980. He played for the Junior State Hockey Team of Jammu & Kashmir from 1973 to 1975 and the Senior State Hockey Team from 1973 to 1980, and was a member of the All India Combined Universities team in 1976 and 1977. He also participated in camps for the Indian Men’s Senior Hockey Team in 1977 and 1978, reaching the final selection stages.

Dr. Batra’s personal life has been shaped by his marriage to Chetna Dhruv Batra in 1983. They had one child, Dhruv Batra, born in November 1984, who left for heavenly abode in October 2014.

In addition to his sports career, Dr. Batra has been instrumental in his family’s diverse business ventures, which span several sectors. These include healthcare, with hospitals and educational institutions such as a medical college and nursing college; hospitality; exports of commodities and home furnishings; and manufacturing of home appliances, LPG cylinders, cylinder valves, and automobile components. The family business also includes operating four-wheeler and two-wheeler dealerships, managing transport operations with LPG and petrol tankers and specialized trucks for transporting new cars across India, running a solar power plant, winning a bid for a sea port in Gujarat, and managing gas stations and petrol pumps in Jammu & Kashmir and Delhi. They also operate gas distribution agencies in Jammu & Kashmir. Dr. Narinder Dhruv Batra’s multifaceted career is a testament to his dedication to sports and his significant contributions to various business sectors, showcasing his versatility and commitment to excellence.

  • Member J&K Sports Council from 2008 to 2010.
  • President of IOA (Indian Olympic Association) from 2017 to 2022.

  • Was member of the 11 member sports bill drafting committee made by Government of India, Ministry of Sports in 2017 and was the only representative on the committee representing the National Sports Federations of India.

  • Was member of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs Government of India (GOI) CSR rules drafting committee in 2018 and the committee completed and submitted the report to GOI. Sports benefitted from It.
  • Member of the 10 member committee of Constitution of National Compliance Platform against Doping in Sports formed on 27.06.2020 by Union Sports Ministry and submitted the report in early 2021.
  • Member of Mission Olympic Cell 2018 to 2022.
